Sandra Bullock's Golden Globes dress sets off style debate

Sandra Bullock may be up for a Golden Globe Award tonight, thanks to her standout performance in Gravity, however, so far, the red carpet buzz is all about what she wore as opposed to her acting chops. Eek! The Best Actress nominee definitely turned heads tonight (for better or worse) in a light pink, black and baby blue gown by Prabal Gurung. The color-block number instantly set off a slew of comments on Twitter, with some fans absolutely loving the look and others deeming it a total disaster. We're still undecided on our end. One thing we do know for sure, though, is her hair and makeup were perfectly on point for the occasion.

Bullock's pretty pink pout more or less matched the shade of pink on her dress. She kept the rest of her makeup fairly simple (which was a wise choice considering all the color she had going on already) and opted for an always-elegant low side pony with some subtle waves. We want to know what you think of Bullock's multi-colored Golden Globes gown. The frock complimented her svelte frame as a black strap at the bust gave way to the red gown, which fanned out at her hips and bustled in the back. The detailing of the dress was just stunning. The star complimented the dress with a stunning beauty look as she rocked her signature red lip — it really brought out the color of the dress! She wore her blonde hair in soft curls which added to the glam look of the night. Taylor had an amazing year last year — both in her professional life and on the red carpet — and it looks like she's starting off 2014 by putting a very fashionable foot forward!

Golden Globes red carpet

The Golden Globes red carpet 2014 was overflowing with star power in Beverly Hills on Sunday night, and the annual "E! Live from the Red Carpet" special helped us keep track of who was wearing what. If you missed any of the fashion fun, check out our red carpet wrap-up below! Stay tuned for more coverage throughout the night, including a full winner's list.

Zooey Deschanel looked vintage glam in a love-it-or-hate-it Oscar de la Renta dress that featured full tulle skirts and a boxy, beaded top with a scoop neck. Her hair looked polished and super smooth, pinned up in a sassy side bun with a white rose tucked behind her ear. Nashville star Hayden Panettiere looked beautiful in a black and white color-blocked design by Tom Ford; the halter-style bodice and slit up the left leg flattered the svelte starlet's figure. Naomi Watts chose a slinky silver Tom Ford dress that featured sexy side cutouts. Jennifer Lawrence looked beautiful in a strapless white Dior creation that had black bands cinching her skirts for a half-glam, half-punk rock look.

Nominee Lupita Nyong'o was without a doubt the best dressed on the Golden Globes red carpet this year. The 12 Years a Slave actress and recent Yale graduate turned heads in a fire-engine red Ralph Lauren gown that managed both bare shoulders and floor-lengOur collection of designer Wholesale Cheap Satin strapless applique beaded mermaid wedding dresses ED5685 are the perfect compliment to your bridal party look.th cape. Her punky pixie-mohawk and simple jewels really allowed the dress to shine.

American Hustle star Amy Adams looked 70s chic in a color-blocked Valentino halter dress in two tones of red with her hair in a braided bun. Simply perfection! Taylor Swift swooped in and nearly stole the show in a cherry red Carolina Herrera gown that featured a black sweetheart neckline. Her hair was pinned up, allowing just a few perfect, golden curls to frame her face. Lena Dunham tried really hard this time, but the glam look just isn't working for her. Somehow, that becomes more and more painfully clear the harder she tries. The big, bright yellow mermaid gown didn't flatter a single one of the Girls star's curves. The simple diamond necklace she wore was the only highlight of Dunham's look, and the sparkle mercifully helped distract from what was going on below the neck.

A reminder of polio's deadly consequences

Pulling a sheaf of papers from a large envelope among my father's effects, a card dropped out, a card I recognized instantly. It was sent to me by the United States government for participating in the 1954 test of Dr. Jonas Salk's polio vaccine.True Wholesale Cheap Vintage dresses Online is increasingly difficult to find in second hand stores or even online stores. I was transported to a day in October that year when Mrs. Altarac, my Grade 4 teacher at East School in Long Beach, N.Y., and the principal, Ms. Hendrickson, strode into our classroom like a cortege. In Mrs. Altarac's calmest, saddest, and most motherly voice, she said: "Children, Howie has polio." Howie had not been in school for several days. I felt sorrow for the Koslow family and a rising fear of contagion that could result in me lurching from place to place, legs encased in metal, like my Uncle Cy.

The kids in our class were potential carriers, so we would have to be separated from the rest of the school. Our arrival at school was to be a half-hour later than the other students; our lunches had to be eaten separately; our recess was taken at a different time; we would leave school half an hour later. We've got day Wholesale Cheap Sexy Tulle Sweetheart Beaded Crystal A-line Evening/Prom Dresses, evening dresses and more.

As if insidious polio was not bad enough, another monster appeared, this one massive and fully visible: Hurricane Hazel, the most destructive storm on record to hit the northeastern United States before Hurricane Sandy. Even Toronto, hundred of miles inland and where I would come to live in 1967, was not spared the flooding, the major loss of life and extensive property damage. Within a day of our quarantine, Hazel swooped and twisted into New York like a witch on a runaway broomstick. That evening, my father hurried my mother, my brother, my sister and me into the car. He explained that we were going to the Bronx where Dr. Sperling, a relative of my mother's,The skirt has widely spaced horizontal strips embroidered in white 2013 Wholesale cheap Sweetheart A-line Beading Blue Tulle Flower Girl Dresses the black skirt and a huge white bow adorning the waistline. was waiting to give us immune boosting gamma globulin shots.

The confidence that a calm parent can give to his or her children, even in the most dire of circumstances, cannot be overestimated. Still, the three of us sided with my protesting mother, wondering why my father would risk swamped and treacherous roads, car-wash type rainfall, falling telephone poles and popping electrical wires. High-pitched winds screamed outside and through the closed windows of our Chrysler.

Despite their precautions, my father, all of three years old, came down with polio while still wearing a dress. By that time, his family was living in a Bronx tenement on Washington Avenue. A neighbourhood yenta claimed to know Boris Thomashefsky, the famous actor and libertine from the Yiddish theatre. She also knew that his strong, independent wife, Bessie, was a caring and charitable person. According to the Yiddish newspapers, the Thomashefsky couple hosted an Italian doctor who had supposedly discovered "a great cure" for polio. Urged on by this neighbour, Bessie Thomashefsky accompanied the doctor to my father's tenement in a chauffeur-driven limousine.

Glamorous and timeless

The most striking aspect of Oscar de la Renta's spring 2014 collection is its broad aesthetic scope. Saks Fifth Avenue presented the designer's 60-look collection on the runway Friday, at The Breakers,When it comes to Tulle sweatheart beaded wedding dresses HS56235, we know what you want! as part of the Hospice Evening benefit dinner dance. Never one for seasonal themes, de la Renta stays on message, working toward his often stated goal: to make women look beautiful. And with a range of spring options, the designer aims to provide day, cocktail and evening wear targeted to varied tastes — appealing equally to the ingenue and to the doyenne. There are choices for those seeking a bit of froth, and for women who prefer a sleeker silhouette. Little black dresses are scattered among the vibrantly toned creations. There's a hint of the past here, a thoroughly modern expression there.Think curvy brides can't look as fabulous in a wTulle sweatheart applique beaded ball party gown wedding dresses as their less-curvy counterparts?

Most women in the audience, many clad in one of the designer's evening gowns, seemed pleased with what they saw on the runway, applauding when several of the more dramatic gowns came down the catwalk. Palm Beachers Helena Martinez and Audrey Gruss were excited by the de la Renta spring clothes. "There were some pretty sassy numbers and some very nice-looking, easy day wear," said Martinez,Our unique Wholesale Cheap Organza Lace Off the shoulder Sexy Beaded Crystal Sheath Wedding Dress are very affordable and come in ivory, white, black, who appreciated the variety of looks — noting a "vintage vibe" that included traces of '50s couture and the "fun" fashions of the 1960s. Gruss called de la Renta's collection one of the best she's seen. "The clothes were glamorous and timeless," she said. "And Oscar's use of color: impeccable." Oscar de la Renta's spring collection will be shown through Tuesday by Boaz Mazor, the designer's executive-at-large, at Saks Fifth Avenue, 172 Worth Ave.

Who did the babybump the best?

It's easy to say Drew Barrymore totally bombed in the maternity gown she opted for Sunday night's Golden Globe awards? While the dress was far from flattering, I will say that she was the most bold in her floral pick. I mean wearing a maternity dress where the flowers literally jump off your body when that very pregnant state is bold. Very bold - even if it is by demure designer, Monique Lhuillier. Of course Kerry Washington gets the nod for the most classiest maternity wear.I look forward to meeting you and making your Tulle satin stapless applique A-line wedding dresses party dress more beautiful than you ever imagined! She opted for a cloudy green Balenciaga. The most appropriate choice, yes? But was it the most fun?

The most fun in a maternity dress award goes to Olivia Wilde, who took last year's color of the year and with the help of Gucci added some sparkle and life. We love it. Wilde did the babybump best. Thoughts fashionistas of Philly? The sexy superstar, who had closed down a theme park earlier in the week for daughter Blue Ivy's 2nd birthday, threw a huge black tie ball last night to celebrate her mum Tina's 60th. And while the guests arrived at the plush Muriel's Jackson Square restaurant in New Orleans on horse-drawn carriages with even a marching band in tow,It's good to know from the very start Tulle sweatheart applique beaded ball gown wedding/party dress sizing is different from everyday ready-to-wear clothing. TMZ reportedly clapped eyes on an invite which read: "Solange Knowles and Beyonce Carter cordially invite you to share in an enchanted evening in New Orleans to celebrate the birthday of their mother Tina Knowles in the tradition of an old New Orleans masquerade party." Guests were encouraged to "be creative and add to the mystery" with masks for the party which would kick-off at 8pm. And fellow famous mum, Kris Jenner did just that - arriving in a black feathered mask, fitted black dress and furry stole. The crowd erupted as she pulled up in a black carriage with a red tassel trim. Meanwhile Bey's former bandmate Kelly Rowland was showing off her new bob haircut as she greeted the fans waiting outside. And it was hard to miss Solange in a striking yellow dress and rainbow mask.

Jewel in the Desert

It was her wedding day, and the San Marcos Hotel was the perfect place for Dorothy Woods' reception. Woods was set to marry Phillip Ruoff on April 25, 1959, at St. Mary's Church, about a block from the home where she grew up on Washington Street near downtown Chandler. The reception was to be at the nearby San Marcos, the town's longtime crown jewel, a place she describes as magical. Her special day was going to be even more special because she would change out of her wedding dress into her reception clothes in the hotel bungalow that once was the residence of Dr. A.J. Chandler, founder and namesake of her hometown.

Hotel owner John Quarty, a family friend,Get the latest Wholesale Cheap Celebrity Dresses Online and wedding news including editors' picks for celebrity wedding dresses. offered what he believed would be the icing on the cake for the 22-year-old bride: trasporting Woods from her home to the church and later to the hotel in the hotel's limousine. It was a 1933 Cadillac with a 16-cylinder engine and an open compartment up front for the chauffeur. The car, which once belonged to Hollywood legend Joan Crawford, a former San Marcos guest, was a link to the resort's star-studded history. Splendor and mystique marked the early days of the San Marcos: an opulent playground, a hideaway for the rich and famous, a place that the common clay of an emerging Chandler, known for farming and ranching, would view from outside in an attempt to sneak a peek at those who lived lives that they could only dream about.

The San Marcos has been part of special occasions for 100 years. When it opened on Nov. 22, 1913, the hotel was Arizona's first true luxury resort, predating the more well-known Biltmore by 16 years, and it featured the first grass golf course in the state. Then, at the age of 16, she contracted meningitis Wholesale Cheap New Arrival Strapless Sweetheart Elegant Tulle Applique Ball Gown Wedding Dress. Guests included Hollywood notables such as Crawford, Errol Flynn,I have created beautiful Tulle round neck beaded applique wedding dresses HS56238 for hundreds of brides and grooms. Clark Gable and Jimmy Stewart. President Herbert Hoover spent a night there after he was out of office. When the A-list guests began to favor other Valley resorts in the 1950s, the San Marcos became an attainable special destination for southeast Valley residents who once could only imagine attending functions on the property. The hotel has been the setting for countless weddings, proms and balls.

It has seen its share of hard times, too. It was closed for more than seven years after Quarty's death in 1979, but it persevered even as ownership changed hands several times. And now at 100, the hotel's future seems as bright as ever. A La Jolla, Calif.-based investment firm purchased the property last year and has pumped an estimated $5 million into renovations, timed for the San Marcos centennial celebration that began in November.

We Need to Stop Validating

Well thank goodness for the shift in attitude 2013 saw. Curvy bodies took centre stage and you could say that it was a successful year in the fight against expectations on women's bodies. Perhaps we are finally moving towards a more rational view on what a woman is expected to look like.

And because of this, I feel less inclined to look like Miranda Kerr and now more inclined to focus my efforts on getting a bod like Jennifer Lawrence.

Perhaps for yourself, it's Robyn Lawley or even Kim Kardashian you can now look to. Curvy bodies, 'plus-size' (ehh, hate that term) models and closer reflections of the standard female body than our Victoria Secret model counterparts.

Okay, noticed anything wrong with what I've written, yet? Yes, there's definitely a shift in the kind of bodies society is beginning to glorify and I'm sure it's now beginning to make a whole other group of women finally feel good about themselves, but I can't help but think that this is doing absolutely nothing to curb the anxiety women feel about the way they look.

The problem I believe, is the glorifying of beauty. The cycle of body dysmorphia 90% of British women feel is perpetuate by the glorification of factors mostly beyond our control.

Think about it. The women mentioned above are still absolutely gorgeous, still considered more beautiful than the average woman and have been placed on a pedestal because of this. This dress shows a good deal of skin and creates an aura of sexy sophistication around you Taffeta strapless Embroidery beaded Quinceanera Dresses Your best friend is getting married .

And it's this glorification of beauty like theirs, and Victoria Secret models, that's always been a part of society. So, no matter if we change the conversation to praising women with curves,And in front of Wholesale Cheap Sexy White Chiffon One Shoulder Sheath Long Evening/Prom Dresses and royals and tenor Andrea Bocelli, who sang. we're still allowing one sector of society to feel they fit, and many others to feel the need to change.

What's worrying about this,Beautiful flowers for a beautiful Tull V-neck Applique A-line wedding/party dress are a must-have. is the glorification of beauty is a much more complicated and wide-spread problem, than the desire to emulate a slender frame.

In fact, it's a societal addiction that we can't blame on just the media or the modelling industry. It's a long-standing, deeply ingrained obsession society has on women looking beautiful and on that somehow validating our importance.

If you reflect for a moment and think about the culture within your own group of friends and family, how often are you validated or do you validate your female friends by how they look? How many of you feel it's a nice thing to do to tell your friends they look beautiful when they dress up for a night out? Sure it's a lovely thing to do, but how often do you reassure your male friends that they look handsome?

Chatham County homicides up in 2013

Timothy Roberts had been back in Savannah less than a year when he was shot to death in October about a block from his childhood home in the city's Cuyler-Brownville neighborhood. Roberts, 37, had spent about a decade working in Orlando, Fla., but he'd returned home in late 2012 to help his mother care for his ailing father. It was just the type of person he was, Martha Roberts said. "He was a beautiful person," she said of her late son, a single father and 1995 graduate of A.apart from the fact all five sets of pyjamas are from Victoria’s Secret, with matching dressing gowns and slippers Discount Taffeta Sweetheart Crystal Beaded A-line Prom/Evening Dresses.E. Like Martha Roberts,We are a full service florist specializing in extraordinary Tulle Glamorous Strapless Handmade Flowers Sprinkled Swarovski Crystal Wedding Dress. Dorothy Stevens struggles every day to understand why her child's life was suddenly and violently taken last year in Chatham County. Stevens' 24-year-old daughter Alice was killed along with her boyfriend Forrest Ison late Nov. 3 outside the Thunderbolt house they shared. "Her whole family misses her and is bewildered by why it happened and really having a tough time getting through the day," Dorothy Stevens said Thursday from her home in Clearwater, Fla. Roberts, Ison and Stevens were among the 32 people in Chatham County to lose their lives to homicide in 2013. While most of those homicides have been cleared by police this year, their cases are among 12 that remain unsolved.

In 2013, all but three homicides occurred in Savannah or unincorporated Chatham County. Ison and Stevens were killed in Thunderbolt and 20-year-old Donald Bernard Lewis was shot to death on Savannah State University's campus. All three are unsolved. Savannah-Chatham police Maj. Larry Branson, the department's Criminal Investigations Division commander, said his agency was investigating 31 homicides in 2013. However, that total included a pair of domestic-related deaths that were later "no-billed" by the Chatham County Grand Jury, meaning sufficient evidence was not found to continue cases against the defendants. Regardless of the exact figure, two things are clear: There was an increase in homicides in Chatham County in 2013 and among those investigated by Savannah-Chatham police a much higher percentage were cleared. Nine homicides in Savannah or unincorporated Chatham County last year are considered unsolved. That makes the homicide unit's clearance rate — a measure of police effectiveness calculated by dividing the number of crimes in which an arrest was made, a warrant was filed,Fashion Island brings you a topless White tulle beaded ball gown wedding dresses made of chiffon and silk that falls to your thighs. or the case has been sent to a grand jury by the total number of crimes in that year — 87 percent, which includes all solved 2013 cases and as well as five 2012 cases cleared within the last year.

Why men don't buy into the sale season

According to witnesses, after the man's pleading to stop shopping fell on deaf ears, in desperation, he jumped seven storeys to his death. Shopping, as far as women are concerned, is a nirvana-type experience where the saying "shop to you drop" rings true. Men, on the other hand, place shopping on the same level as visiting the dentist or giving up a night with the boys and being forced to take the wife or girlfriend to a chick flick. While fathers and sons share time, and bond going to the footy, on bike rides or building a new cubby house, for mothers, the peak experience is to take the daughter on their first retail outing together to buy a new party frock or designer outfit. Even after they have left home and started a life of their own, one of the greatest offences any daughter can commit is to say "No" to her mother after being offered the excitement and pleasure of a day's outing at the nearest shopping mall.

When shopping, men are programmed differently from women. Men, generally speaking, know what they want, how much it should cost and like to be in and out as quickly as possible.Buy cheap plus size mother of the Discount Sexy Ruched Chiffon Sweetheart Beaded A-line Mother of the Bride Dresses With Jacket online. Not so with women. For women, shopping represents a lengthy, complex ritual where a transaction can take hours and the rules of engagement are often beyond the understanding of males. After nearly 40 years of married life, I can speak from personal experience. When buying business shoes, I'll always remember making the mistake of choosing the first pair I saw. Unacceptable,A Wholesale Cheap Cocktail dresses Online or cocktail gown is a woman's dress worn at cocktail parties and semi-formal, or "black tie" occasions. according to my wife, who acts on the belief that to be a truly rewarding and satisfying experience, shopping must involve multiple alternatives and plenty of time comparing options.
For men, the whole purpose of shopping is buy what you want and the idea that it might be rewarding or enjoyable for its own sake is foreign. Women, on the other hand, are happy to go into a store with no intention to buy but simply to try on whatever catches their attention as a form of retail therapy.

Pity the male partner sitting patiently and dreading the moment when asked: "How do I look in this? Does it suit me?" Say "Yes" too quickly and the wife or girlfriend knows that all you want to do is to go home and watch the cricket - say "No" and you will affront their female sensitivity by questioning their judgment. As many men know, it's also true that whatever answer you give will be the wrong one as women aren't really interested in what you think - they just want to make sure that you are involved, paying attention and sharing the experience. Unlike men who approach transactions in a direct and succinct manner - "Do you have what I want and how much will it cost?" - women treat sales assistants as trusting and intimate friends longing for conversation.

Women also believe shop assistants when they say: "Oh yes, that really suits you", "It's heavily discounted and a bargain at that price" and "We've sold quite a few and there's only one or two left". The rule for men is that the longer you have your favourite T-shirt, jeans or casual shoes, the better it is - comfort and familiarity rule. Not so for women who work on the belief that anything more than a year old is obsolete and that whatever is new season must be better. Even with cupboards overflowing with dresses, evening wear, designer shoes and handbags, jewellery and assorted garments, many of which have only be worn once,Our range of Discount Sexy Tulle Sweetheart Beaded Crystal Mermaid Evening/Prom Dresses adds a touch of fun and glam to an evening. women will keep spending and spending.

We talked about Mira and the great joy

Manna had gotten her job at Weir Courtney by responding to a newspaper ad. The owner of Weir Courtney, Sir Benjamin Drage, belonged to the West London Synagogue and had offered his estate to house orphan children.Favorite fashion doll will be ready for a night on the town in this ruffled Wholesale Cheap Satin Strapless Cocktail/Evening/Prom Dresses ED5685. I arrived there with my violin and looked through the window and saw these 6-year-old children with shorn hair, who danced, and there I stood outside and started crying," Manna once told an interviewer. In the beginning, the boys and girls seemed to have forgotten how to be young. When a bus arrived for an outing to London, two of the children recalled years later, they feared it had come to take them away. One boy, Alice wrote in a report, "was often found walking round and repeating: 'I am a lucky boy that I have not been shot as a baby.' " He was said to have placed toy soldiers outside his bedroom door for security.

In time, the children stopped living in fear. The staff celebrated birthdays with the ones who remembered when they were born and assigned new birthdays to those who had forgotten. Some mornings, Manna woke the children with a rendition of Mozart's "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" on her violin." "It was," Manna said, "the most wonderful work, because they were just filling you up with gratitude, and they were also therapeutic for me." Several people who worked at Weir Courtney were associated with what is now called the Anna Freud Centre in London, an institute for child psychology founded by the daughter of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud. Manna stayed at Weir Courtney until 1949 and spent much of the rest of her career running the center's nursery as a close associate of the founder, according to the archivist. She called her time at Weir Courtney, with its idyllic gardens, music room and abundant space for playing, her "happiest years." "You are real people!" she exclaimed, in a heavy German accent, beaming at the gray-haired women she had loved as children. There were tears.

Andra and Tatiana had brought the doll, the purse and the hat — the going-away gifts that they treasure today as much as they did when they left Weir Courtney 67 years ago. Manna stared at the hat and bag, as if reaching into the depths of her memory in search of their meaning. "Oh, wait, yes! Oh, wait a minute. Yes!" she cried. "Yes!" She held and gazed at the doll that had traveled so far. We talked about Mira and the "great, great joy" Manna remembered at Weir Courtney when the Buccis found their children. Andra and Tatiana regret that their mother never had a chance to meet her. "I have heard it said," Manna's niece, Helen, wrote to the sisters and to me later, "that people often die near or around an important life event." Helen would always wonder, she said, if the sisters' visit with Manna was one such event, "as she let go shortly after that." When the sisters returned to their homes in Europe — Andra's in Italy and Tatiana's in Belgium — Helen wrote to us to say that Manna had taken ill with congestive heart failure and pneumonia. Our Wholesale Cheap New Sexy chiffon Flower One-shoulder Draped Evening Dresses Prom Dresses are feminine, sexy and sassy, ideal for every special occasion.
