Military Clothing and Uniforms Throughout History

The military has a long and varied history of uniforms. Armed forces in general probably first used uniforms for a number of reasons, many of which are still relevant. The first uniforms were probably simply distinguishing marks in conspicuous places on the clothing or armor.
